Bio

I completed my B.A. in Psychology and English from the University of Virginia and my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Kent State University. I completed my internship at the Counseling and Psychological Services at the University of Virginia. My areas of expertise include sexual assault, eating disorders, relationships, trauma, diversity, neurodiversity, positive psychology, mindfulness, and self-compassion. I have been a licensed clinical psychologist since 2000. I taught multiple psychology classes as an assistant professor at the University of Pittsbugh-Johnstown and Mary Baldwin College for 13 years. I then worked at University Counseling Services at Washington and Lee for 19 years. Currently I have a virtual private practice in Virginia and Tennessee through Grow Therapy and am a virtual life coach for former clients who live in other states.

If you’re interested in learning how to practice self-compassion, check out my website at Christy Barongan, PhD.
